That's true.. just many people (including me) speculate: 2F and 1N are both Eurobirds, so they are both produced by EADS Astrium. Besides there are like 12 years between 2D and 1N so you can expect that spotbeams became better over 12 years. I for myself doubt that too much will change for 2F, 2E and 2G as a much shorter time frame is between those. They will probably be more focused but I guess the difference won't be as extreme as 2D and 1N is to be expected. Still: you never know! We can be lucky I guess that UK uses 28.2° as orbital position, that way some overspill is always coming towards France, Netherlands or Germany.. if it was like 15°W I think things would look much different.

2E F & G will be more or less identical as far as the European beams go. There are differences outside Europe

oh yes, Slingbox... I just hope that technology will improve if they really deprive us of our UK TV satellite channels... from what I have heard, most Slingbox services only provide a VGA-size video feed (640x480), some even less than that... not a serious problem on smaller TV screens, but if you have a big widescreen LCD or LED TV, it will be like watching your dad's old 1980s VHS home movies.

there are currently three signals active: 11,052H 11,127V and 11,175H. Can anyone check those out there ? Comparisons would be interesting.

using my Technisat receiver, 0.0 dB for the first two, and a very faint 0.1 dB on the 11,175H one.

Can you make out a picture or video feed on either of those three frequencies?

The HD boxes give a weird res of 1280x544 but its much better than the SD versions which as you say gives 640x480. I also use a slingcatcher which does some upscaling I've been told upto 1080i, I have it all connected to my 42 inch Pioneer Kuro and its pretty good. I would say its much better than Cypriot terrestrial broadcasts but thats not so hard I guess:D. You would be surprised at the quality, obviously not as good as the dish but there are times I want things like "football first" so I need the red button on the sports channels and its more than acceptable in those circumstances but you need a good upload speed at least 5Mb! Even my 4.2m dish cant get me football first:D!

Yes, SES are going through their usual battery of tests.

So we are looking forward to another two weeks of testing?

Signals are too weak here to examine more closely. Two are quite wide, so probably digital, the 11.175 one is more narrow, could be analogue.

I can't believe after all the testing at 1.8E that SES might be planning other days of testing at 28.2. Whilst Astra 3B was in service at 23.5E in a very short period of time

They arent - The SES press release clearly says 1N is now ready to go & is in commercial service at 28E.

So why what we have at the moment is just the usual testing carriers?

my guess would be that they still have to run some tests now that 1N is in its final position (in terms of its interim mission at 28.2E, before being moved to 19.2E in the future) because there needs to be some fine-tuning and zeroing-in to ensure that the service will really be operational as expected and promised. Perhaps "in commercial service" just means that they have switched it on at its end position, even though there are no TV programme feeds coming from its transponders as yet.

Maybe a bit like when you rent a car - it is sitting in the car park waiting for you, ready to go... just because you haven't got in the car yet, doesn't mean it's not in service... even if an employee is still checking the tyre pressure :D

No change here from my last scan, but using your frequency 'window', there's nothing at present on 11175 here.

Quite possible those tp's will be lit up overnight and they are just running them up to warm everything through.

Checking the constellation output of 11127V yields just spectral noise, no analogue carrier. Obviously way too down below the noise to show any signs of life.

It's a possibility. Anyone would stay up overnight to check if anything happens?:D
