Can't say I've noticed any difference Wod but TBH I haven't looked at anything from Badr6 in a couple of weeks. If there is an improvement it may be because the skies are exceptionally clear. I'll pop the 1.2M round to Badr6 and see if I notice anything different.

Edit : No discernable difference. No lock on Oman HD but then it usually only locks after dark. It's supposed to 'warm' up tonight so I guess there's little point in trying this evening.

The snow here has finally begun to melt and this morning, we have temperatures above freezing for the first time in a week and light drizzle. If the car defrosts I'll be making a trip for supplies this afternoon. I just hope the trading post hasn't been raided by natives.......again.

Yeah, it was warm but still took my coat when I went to watch rugby at 4pm, got colder a little.

Shouldn't have bothered as we lost anyway due to a stupid ref.

Local news forecast last night said should be 11 degrees by Wednesday.

Almost all the snow has gone and the temperature has lifted to the heady heights of +5°C. I've had a French plumber to repair not one but as it turned out two leaks. Not something I could have done as he had to replace a length of pipe (and used an oxyacetelene torch to solder the joints). I expected some huge bill but he only wanted €40, I was so grateful I gave him €45......Oh, the trading post was open yesterday, luckily they'd just got in a new supply of fire ready dessicated peasants so I stocked up.....they have a long use by date so will be ok for next Winter.....

Much warmer here as well, but during the week there is definitely a smoky air in the house. Either the chimney has got blocked with soot/debris, or some of the mortar has broken away between ground and first floor.

Either way the wood stove has to come out for cleaning or repair, which I am not looking forward to.

Clearly a good news day all round: 7 deg C here and the Taxman has given me a cheque for £450 !

And Pete, good to hear you got the plumbing sorted. Your chap sounds like a real diamond.

Nice, you can get the black ultra lnb now and save the rest for a rainy day.

My thoughts exactly - could do with a tad more stability on AB7 and I think the Black Ultra might cut it.

That said, I thought you wanted to upgrade yours to Quad and flog the Twin to me nice and cheap?

Sounds like you need to have a chimney liner put in, it'll improve the efficiency of the stove too as wide chimneys tend to not have as much draw as say a standard 6" flue... :)

Well, considering he had to crawl along to where the eaves butt onto the wall, in amongst all the detritus that's accumulated there, then fit a new length of pipe, yes!! He (Julien Douillet)has given me his business card and I'll be recommending him to anyone who might be in need of a plumber. I notice he does geothermal heating too.

I got up on the roof yesterday with the heavy duty vacuum cleaner, took off the cover tile and ......

apart from a light dusting of soot, the flue (as far as I can see) is clean, remarkedly so with a mirror black sheen all the way down. The mortar between the bricks however is almost non-existent, so the liner is my next purchase.

Luckily the flue is bigger than I thought, at around 18 inches square, so dropping anything smaller and flexible down the shaft shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Yeah, if the mortar is in bad shape, a liner is essential (go for an insulated one if you can, as that'll help with the draw immensely and help reduce your fuel useage), otherwise you'll have tarry deposits appearing on the breast as it runs through the house, along with the sooty, smoky smells.... :)

And it's better to use a chimney sweeping brush kit than just a vacuum cleaner, as the brush will clear more soot than a vacuum cleaner would, heavy duty, industrial or otherwise... :)

Well if you're up to it, I've got some concrete dressing that needs doing on my hip and valley.

A sparklingly clear morning here after a light overnight frost. Found a ladybird on one of the outside walls this morning. Apparently they are the first insect to appear in the Spring.....must have been confused this Winter as I saw them at the end of December last year!
