You have Drains?

Jessie.

Drains? Don't mention drains, I have a girl from the Water Company (or maybe it's S.P.A.N.C....yes, it's really called that) coming tomorrow afternoon to inspect my septic tank......don't know if she's called Jessie....

Going to be blisteringly cold in some areas overnight - forecasts are down to -15C in some areas!

Hopefully it won't last more than a couple of hours that low - it's not actually been too bad this past few days, either.

Snowdrops are up and the daffs are in leaf.

Over Christmas we had the snowdrops daffs & bluebells all in leaf together. Most odd to see up here - the bluebells are normally quite a bit later than the snowdrops..

The freezing rain was not pleasant this morning, a 10 minute journey took 40 minutes due to the high level of accidents on the road. Thankfully on my ways home my ABS system saved me from what would have been a rather unpleasant accident when I turned into my road and my car became an unguided out of control missile on the dogleg left downhill section that was sheet ice. The ABS somehow guided me to a rather noisy crunchy halt less than 3cm off the vehicle who had parked in direct line of where someone would slide into if they had lost complete control.

Yes, I've just had a near-miss too, involving a Farmer's 4*4 towing a livestock trailer across a semi-blind humpty-backed bridge just up the lane. ABS is a boon provided one doesn't become blasé about it.

It's now raining "properly" so when the temperature drops again tonight we are in for skating rink conditions.

Went to the Sheffield Wednesday game on Tuesday night. Been the coldest I've ever been at a football game.

Doesn't help that I was sitting down, I usually stand and can move around a bit to stay warm.

Have you managed to get home yet?

Light sprinkling of the white stuff at about 18.30, but all looks quite benign right now.

It's been sleeting here since around 7pm. No serious downpour, but if it carries on there will be a couple of inches before the morning and no fun in the rush hour.

Another really cold night last night.

The BBC weather a few minutes ago suggested it was slightly above freezing round here, but both thermometers show -2C.

My hands have done their usual trick of cracking the skin, many of the 4mm cuts or so are just where I dont need them, at the ends/sides of the fingers, and a couple right next to the fingernails.

Looks a bit dull here, but will find out how cold it is in half an hour when SWMBO drags me out for perambulation.

It was -9°C when I took the dogs out this morning, I have no doubt we had minus double figures during the night. Snow which has been laying for a week now has melted a little in the sun but the ground is like cast iron. If the forecast is correct, we should get a proper thaw by Monday lunch time at the latest.
