A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

The client has managed to update the V7 to the latest firmware (which is something to be celebrated, it took almost an hour on the phone to achieve).

On some HD channels - 19East German, there is a set of flickering red lines near the top of the picture, no way of getting rid of them.

Additionally the box still doesn't do DiSEqC 1.3 despite everything upstairs being compatible, and on 1.2 there is still the repeated 'dish moving' message.

I will be sent some images to confirm this and other problems over the weekend. I have confirmation once again that swopping back to the Venture receiver and everything is fine.

The Freesat V7 is a time-wasting joke.

Hi Channel hooper, there's nothing wrong with the box, I would recommend looking in yellow pages and finding a local competent satellite installer, they will have it up and running in minuets, as mentioned previously this is not a box for a novice to play with, leave it to the professionals.

The box was delivered to site on Friday last week, I was out there on Tuesday morning following the swopout and the half a day of client faffing around with the set up at the weekend. I founnd it had been supplied with firmware - from March - that Scopus confirms has major flaws in its operation which should have been sorted by the manufacturers / support team long before now. The upgrade to May (25th ?) has made little difference and may actually have introduced picture anomalies into the mix, but I await images to see what they look like.

No 'professional' is going to go near a £30 box bought online.

I will be purchasing a new receiver as well as new Laminas Dish in the next month or so.
Would TM-5402MK3 be the best buy, or does it suffer fake 45000 channels like the
Technomate I had about 10 or 12 years ago, or is it too old now.
Tuner sensitivity is important as I am a feed junky so blind scan is important also,
how would this receiver compare to my Clarke-Tech 5100C.
Octogan 4008 is an option also, (but no blind scan) as it is supposed to be very sensitive
and I will have to learn how to use a Linux receiver.
Suggestions/Advice on other receivers welcome.

Thanks as always folks

I am happy with VU+ satellite receivers (Enigma 2) and recently I bought Mutant HD51 4K because I needed a CI+ support to a subscription card that I have and it works OK with OpenATV image.
The most important thing for me is to be able to connect to the PVR HDD recordings using a PC.
Any receiver that encrypts the recordings so that it can play the recordings only using the specific receiver is a big NO NO for me.
I had to delete all the recordings from an old receiver because I wanted to use the HDD on a new receiver instead of buying another HDD.

I am going to get a TBS6908 for now, so I can play with some of the different modes
that my Clarke-tech does not see.
I think it also receives DVB-S2X plus c-band

A good CPU and graphics card are needed to get the best out of TBS receivers. I have the USB TBS5925 version. My graphics card is a GTX1070 which enables displaying of the new 4:2:2 feeds. Examples of these are Question Time feeds for the BBC and sports feeds for TG4 and RTE in Ireland. Also the receiver has to be supplied with third party software, like DVB Dream which I use. So a fair bit of extra expenditure might be needed for someone getting a TBS. Another consideration is how suitable the computer screen is for viewing TV. It is probably possible to feed the TV signal back from the computer to a TV screen, but that is something I have not looked into.

My setup is a Dr HD Grand Triple receiver which I use to tune in signals and for some feedhunting. This is looped through to an AzBox which has Enigma 2 and that is then looped through to the TBS which is connected to the PC. A non Linux receiver like the Dr HD suits me best for tuning in signals and general viewing and especially for driving the dish. The loop through then allows the full benefits of E2 and the TBS to be enjoyed. 16PSK and the like show no signals on the Dr HD but they appear on the TBS.

I never had a “proper” E2 receiver since the Az did not start out life as such. I want to replace it with something like the Octagon, but even if that does Multistream and S2X, other new things will keep appearing and there can be no perfect setup.
