Welcome to the club!

I suspect most of us have got old Sky boxes and several proper Satellite receivers stashed away in our man caves, as well as old dishes, brackets, motors, LNBs, bits of electric string and heaven knows what else :D
i want to use my old sky box for something else

80cm Motorised.

Much else.

Sky boxes don't have DiSEqC and the clumsy Add Channels feature only permits a handful of Symbol Rates to be applied, so they are of severely limited use for anything other than their key purpose.

Both my Humax Foxsat and Foxsat HDR Freesat boxes support DiSEqc.

And, at one time or another, they've each been used with multi-LNB and Motorised configurations.

In fact, my wife currently uses the elderly Foxsat for UK at 28E and for other stuff on Hotbird (13E), Astra 1 (19.2E) and, until earlier this week, Atlantic Bird 3 (5W)

Don't know about other Freesat brands.

Dont bother - its more or less useless for anything apart from 28E as Lazarus has explained.
I heard if you change default transponder to something different when you are lock onto other sat you can use it with that satellite

I use a Vu Duo for freesat/freeview you can do most things on them.

Cross epg is great for settling up recordings.

And works with all Diseqc flavours.

It should show up on Technomate boxes on 11.777v as EPG background audio in the radio section along with one called IEPG data 1.
If you select the IEPG data 1 channel and then press your EPG button - wait about 30 to 40 seconds then when you go back to tv listings your box will have 7 day EPG loaded.
Might be useful for some that don't know.

I can't remember if I changed the default transponder or not but years ago I used a Digibox (and an A/B switch to change between LNBs) to view a couple of channels on 13E. It was a right faff and I only wanted to view a channel occasionally it just about was worth while.

probably you did because the default transponder get the epg data from 28.2e but if you change it to the epg data frequency for the satellite you are on it should give you an epg for that satellite

Yes you can get some fta channels on it on other satellites, but the Add Channels function is so clunky you are better off spending 50quid on a proper receiver. (Especially as you are still locked to the 50 extra channels or so that Sky allowed even if you can get it to work in the first place)

No, the EPG will ONLY work with Sly's own datastream on 28E. On any other satellite you will only get Now and Next information. This information is a DVB standard and is carried in the data of the channel that you're watching at that time.

I've used the hard drives (Plus and HD) to replace and enhance a couple of clients' non-Sky PVR receivers.

What models of TM? Doesn't appear to work on TM5502HD.

Got it working on 5402's and F3/5's i have not used any other models.
Did you stay on the channel with the EPG open for 30 to 40 seconds?

Yes, the Freesat EPG is also proprietary.

The Sly EPG can be used by Dreamboxes I believe. Maybe they can also use the Freesat EPG?

Yes Paul they do, but without any configuration shenanigans on every image I have used on my Enigma 2 boxes they were populated rapidly on all the Freesat channels mate.
