Just happened close to my cottage here i N. Currently out of control and sinking.
No fatalities and everyone evacuated: very good.
The state-of-the-art super-hightech ship did not manage to detect or avoid a 250 meter long oiltanker: completely ridiculous.

It is (was) a 134 meter long frigate. Built for radar stealth, which may have contributed to the oiltanker not detecting it (nighttime collision), but does not explain the frigate not managing to detect possible danger and take evasive action vs a very slow moving tanker. Some luck, fully loaden tanker hardly damaged and not leaking.

It was apparently docked in the harbour, so the crew might have been out on the tiles.

Reports say the tug boat towing the tanker was also dented.

^^^ no towing, but a towboat was behind the tanker. No harbour, both ships moving at sea. Frigate returning to base after NATO exercise, full 'warcrew' on board.

Fake news then (on multiple sites)

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — A Norwegian Navy frigate was rammed by a tanker while it was docked in a harbor on the country's west coast Thursday,
Norway's Accident Investigation Board said a towboat was also involved in the accident, but didn't say how.
The shipping site Sysla said the tanker had been loaded with crude oil and was being towed out of the harbor when it rammed the frigate. The tanker was on its way to Britain.

^^^ oilprice is down 1.2 % today (as it's clear Iran will still be able to export in spite of sanctions), so no problem there.

The frigate did a 'Costa Concordia' to avoid sinking. Now being secured to avoid sliding into deeper water.
Reported here, it's fully loaded with missiles, live ammunition etc, so the salvage work will be rather special.

And these vessels are supposed to take on a hypotetical Russian naval attack, todays great demonstration of not even seeing a 250 meter tanker 50 meters away makes us all feel very secure \ money well spent building them lol+++

Update (downdate...). So after hiring in some blockheads to secure it (to avoid any risk of it sliding into deep water), everyone was happy and content then went home and back to sleep. Result? after a long collection of failures (crew quality, navigation, national shipping\radar control, the 'securing' work and more) this is what it looks like this morning:

f661a75e-ae08-4486-a863-ae4b5d68106b?fit=crop&q=80&w=1440

And crammed full of explosives, weapons, missiles, torpedos, will be an interesting job trying to clean up the mess. And the natural next step (Norwegian style) in this unbelieveable story ? the whole thing exploding, killing some dozens of salvage workers + destroying the nearby oil terminal.

Now, time to find all the responsible morons and let them face adequate justice, this should avoid it happening again:

I'm sure that if they failed to spot an oil tanker last week despite being hailed, some local enterprising young forum member could purloin the radar equipment from the conning tower. At low tide and under cover of darkness of course.

no,no, it was built for radar stealth, and the current situation is completely normal, just a demonstration of it's great capabilities in that field.

They think they can get it out, but good luck to anyone who wants to make all the myriad of electronics ever work (reliably) again. All in all It's a writeoff, anthing else would be a ridiculous waste of money and time (as was it's original build btw). Best future use? make it somehow float again, tow it out to deep sea and use for missile target practice.
