Just got back from town: The wind is so strong that folk (myself included) were struggling to remain standing.

And heavy rain has just started.

A more recent article from George Monbiot. I have to say that I can't disagree with what he's saying.

This flood was not only foretold – it was publicly subsidised | George Monbiot

Reading the part about Bannister, doesn't surprise me that he got away with what he did to the land, after all, the mahogany turd (I met him when working for one of his companies, came across as a heavily-tanned prick, my personal opinion of course) built his Boundary Mill store in Colne on a methane-filled landfill site (which was a wildlife haven, where we saw deer walking up from to the grassland outside the house, the deer are now gone), releasing a lot of the greenhouse gas in the process, which is still releasing gas today via vents put into the ground, I'm just glad I no longer live nextdoor to that ticking timebomb...

Wind has died down. Sadly, the troublesome tree is intact :(

How norwegian oil workers cope with todays storm in the North Sea

Process engineer on the Snorre A platform is among the many who have been feeling the strong wind on the body today. Along with colleague Atle Eide, he decided to make some fun out of it.

It's not as bad as it looks, you know. We help a little by jumping, says a laughing Vidar Halland.

The river is about a mile from here & about 30m below our cottage height so perfectly safe from any river flooding. I think the worst of the really heavy rain missed us, although the river was very high indeed when we were out & about this afternoon

Weird that the last batch of 80mph wind which wasn't even two months ago never moved my rig.

Really miserable today, and then there is what's occurring outside. It arrived two days early.

South Westerly gales and heavy rain most of the morning here. Rain has eased off for now but will be huddled round the log burner with bowlfuls of gruel this evening..

We have -5C *and* southwesterly gales.
Chill factor approach -15. The kid were sent out earlier to day to play, and came back in after 10 minutes complaining about pain in various limbs.
I was considering moving a cable runs on the outside (as this is the last day of not thinking about work for a long time). Of course I have no problem with cold (cough-cough), but I am concerned about cracking the sleeve, as these are PVC sleeved cables (from when I didn't know better). :)
Normality (rain) returns on wednesday.
Yeay!
