This would theoretically reduce any linear reception close to null ..but have no effect on circular ..
Theroretically, linear signals will always be received (with 3 dB loss) by a circular LNB. They can't be nulled!

Agreed ..
not totally ..but as you know when receiving a linear V transponder there is a point when rotating the linear lnb physically ..where V becomes H and vice versa ..
This is the point I am hoping to find ..
close to null at the changeover..
I figured it may just help ..
every fraction of a db being relevant in this quest..

anyway ..looks like the experiment is over for now ..
skies darkening rapidly ...
cloud gathering ..
12149L down to 2.2db <<<
looks like storms are close now..
doh!

Ive never looked at the DSTV package before until a few days ago, its a dam good package, I might consider getting a 2.4 just for this in the future. 36E would leave the dish nearly flat to the fence and would take up very little room, the fence here is 10ft, certainly worth considering just short of £360 for the year, I will be keeping my eyes peeled in the future :).

How good is your reception of DSTV on the 1.8? I only get 12245H - others are under lock.

I cant give you a true answer yet Alex, my dish is far from lined up, I have room for improvements, my 1.2 is nearly matching the 1.8 atm  , I was going to line it better this afternoon until the storm appeared:(.

So ..that is the SL3 off the menu ..
The filters are too good where the ka stuff is allowed to pass ...and output to the IF line ..the ku is is effectively muted ...
Lider gets through at around 10db ...even though this is a true circular polarised lnb ..
The only hump in the trace is at the lower frequency of 12245L ...
Which simply isn't strong enough ...
This hump isn't present in a V/R scan so must be for real ...but sadly the 'filtered' or 'muted' part of the spectrum is not available to scan ..
I guess Directv dont use it on the SL3 ..so is muted and where ka is injected into the IF ..
damn ..
Actually the DO use this bit of spectrum on DirecTV 4S at 101.2°W but not on the SL3 ?
maybe it's one of the add on lnbs ...(one of the Eagle Aspens perhaps)
At least that's my curiosity satisfied..
doh!!36E on SL3.png DSCF0129.JPG

Or maybe the SL3s ability to mute this chunk of spectrum can be turned off under command control of their dedicated receivers ?

This was my result on 12245 R 27500 the other day with the circular lnb, I am unsure if it V/H so two pictures one showing the sub beam and the other Russian beam,

They are probably the same beam. Can you scan the channels in to see what you get?

What channels were scanned in on each of these polarities?

Martin, I wanted to see your scans because sub-Sahara beam is very likely to overpower the Russian beam at your location, so I am surprised that you'd be getting both. It makes sense that one LNB would "cancel out" the "wrong" polarity, so that's why I wanted to see the scans.

It was the other day and I don't have screen shots but rest assured I don't tell lies I did pid scans to make sure they was no mistake and checked what scanned in, I presume the Russian beam scanned in as V because V wont lock on the normal lnb,

I am still flabbergasted that you're getting the Russian beam up there. I wonder if 36A has started wobbling somehow due to age, giving you the advantage? Also, will be interesting to see the new 36C satellite.

36E on Inverto best I can do.png So I'm giving up on this now as there is no more I can squeeze out on Carl ..
Convinced now that the minimum required dish size at my location is 1.8m for anything to lock ..
Good luck guys ..
at least I finally got a very brief hint from 12092R ..
lol
