View attachment 82903 So I'm giving up on this now as there is no more I can squeeze out on Carl ..
Convinced now that the minimum required dish size at my location is 1.8m for anything to lock ..
Good luck guys ..
at least I finally got a very brief hint from 12092R ..
lol

Hi -
i would agree that 1.8 is the minimum required --- 12092 is locking here again today using IBU universal set to H -- watching NHK world from Russian beam as i have my lunch -- Had some encouraging results re - some other Russian t.p.s last night -- from some l.n.b. experiments but nothing new locked yet .... Shame i have to work till after 6.00 tonight , as skies are clear here now.
I would love to spend the afternoon chasing these t.p.s.............

I would certainly like to try -- but i have no k/u l.n.b. holder for it as yet - i need to construct something sturdy that i can adjust in every direction - to find the sweet spot ... The Prodelin/beast is ultra sensitive enough to small movements in C band..... so i,m in no doubt that in k/u its going to be tricky and time consuming to get the best out of it, and spare time is something i don,t have enough of just recently.
in the midst of a thunder storm here right now - so probably no playing out tonight :(

A very brief test one evening on bbc world transponder 1 west with a k/u l.n.b

Thank you nelson I thought you had already had KU on the beast, no play time for me due to the rain :(

No i did a quick lash up for k/u one night - and tested 1 transponder, it made me realize i would have to make something much more precise, to see any real potential on weak k/u transponders .
i think i,m probably up to the max with the C band l.n.b. now though :)

The signal at 36.0E is pretty good in my area.I've done tests with two types of antennas:Toroidal T90 and PFA 150 cm.Of course it is advisable one LNB circular even when the signal is good.Polarity Left is weaker than Right on both antennas on Russian spot.Unlike Express-AT1 from 56.0 E, where the signal from the spot Wide can be received even with linear lnb,at 36.0E you get Russia spot with circular lnb.
On toroidal antenna I used a circular LNB offset single brought from Moldavia.Without getting into the details, I can say that it can get better signal on the toroidal if I have made better adjustments to the dish.
On Prime Focus dish I used a linear lnb to which I have added a depolarizer from SWM.I posted picture depolarizer plate used for circular. As you can see, it is easy to made this plate.Of course, the signal is better on a larger dish.

OK --
Been trying a new approach to these Russian circular t.p.s -- and although i got a good result tonight its still not enough - l.o.l.
No its not the Prodelin beast ... its the 1.8 prime focus Alcoa that.s been sitting redundant since the Turksat beam change last year .

Doubt I could get even close on Christina ..which is basically the same dish ..
Simply not accurate enough for ku from past experiments.
And I'd have to get the lnb at the sweet spot which would mean ditching the Cband lnbs ..
imo simply not worth the agro at my location..
No way could using a petalised 1.8PF give me better results than a single section offset 1.5
Nonetheless ...I wish you luck buddy ..
Location Location Location ...plus a big dish in the mix I think.
:)

:)

It was worth a try :) as it was still setup pointing at 42 east anyway so not much to do ... and your T plate design has served me so well in c band thought it might also in k/u
i had good results in the past with this dish/feed setup on the turksat east beams ... and they were tricky enough on the 1.8 channel master
but 6.0 db on 12 129 R clearly is not enough maybe it needs 9.0 db .. :)

Hi Evan, have you strung your dish since you installed it ?, i was concerned about the two adjusters pulling it out of shape, just a thought in case it was something overlooked.

I don't often look at 42E is this beam still hard to get nelson please.

hi martin -
not even a flicker from the east beams anymore - for me here now, since things changed there last year .... pity as Radyo Eksen was/is such a good rock radio station ... i can receive it online still, but the satellite channel was better quality sound i always thought:)

hi martin -

Hi nelson, you should be getting 11014 H 9600 42E, i think its the E beam ?.

Nice that this transponder is now changed to a west beam -- apart from the t.v channels that you mentioned -- 11054H 30000 also carries Radyo Eksen -- which in my view is one of the best rock radio stations available :) -- content is similar to bbc 6 music but without all the chat --- now that this t.p has switched from east beam to west beam it makes my 1.8 Alcoa prime focus dish somewhat redundant - as this has been its sole use for the past 3 years -- l.o.l.

EDIT

Forget the above its all clear now :)

Here's a test with a Ku linear lnb on Russian spot at 36.0E.Horizontal polarity seems more favorable than the vertical, but that does not mean that the signal is stronger on this polarity. The bottom line is that we can receive the signal circular with linear lnb only if we have strong signal on our area. As it is at 56.0E on Russian Wide spot, where you will not need the circular LNB to lock the signal,as happens in my area with 150 cm antenna with Inverto Ku linear lnb.Same Inverto LNB I used it also at 36.0E.
