BBC and other British channels. People seem to think this is because of the "tightening of the beam", and that soon reception here will no longer be possible.

Nah - as Heuvos says thats because the BBC frequencies are getting interference from Badr 5 in the next orbital slot along (26E). We have had lots of reports of problems from both ends of the Mediterranean.

Tiz true I have seen a 1.35 with 11.2db and 6.7db MER here on 11053

I have been so busy not had chance to play properly on my dish at home get nothing at all When I get quieter will spend some time but for now making Hay whilst the sun shines I'm afraid.

Thanks Dez. It would appear the three I had checked are most probably out of alignment or are in need of a decent LNb ;)

6.7dB MER is certainly borderline

What can I do to avoid the problem?

I'm looking at buying a Famaval dish in the next few days.
Those are made here in Portugal so are reasonably priced.

Famavals are cheap because they are fairly low quality! :D

And may actually worsen your problems if the dish isnt put up by someone who knows what they are doing.

Satellite man
the 1.35M are right on the edge. I would guess 95% are not working on 11053.
It is down to LNB/receiver combination. I would say my dish & LNB as 9/10 in the past but nothing on 11053. As I say need to spend some time on it.

Thanks; I don't have a problem so far because I don't have a dish yet!

I've been trying to work out what to buy, but it's hard to get hard information it seems.

I intend to put it all in myself; if necessary I'll get a pro to come do the fine tuning.

I'm a hard-core DIY man. Aside from the extra expense, I'm rarely happy with other people's work.

I haven't even been able to get prices yet, no one has gotten back to me; but I'll know what my options are by the middle of the week.

I only have experience with 2 Famaval dishes.
The 1.2M is cheap. Reasonable gain but have seen some that are only 2 years old where the dish rusts around the 6 bolts holding it to the back mount so badly that they have parted company in the wind. Horrific. Would never install one of these again.
On the other hand the 2.4M dishes are far more substantial and although they do rust in certain places they are pretty good and are the best performing dishes used here (with petals making them 3.1M)

Hope this helps

Yes it is cheaper than a CM, but it is not a bad dish (one piece spun aluminium), and the mount is pretty well thought out and adjustable.

I beg to differ. The Famaval performs very well here.I think because the surface is smooth and perfect ,from a mould. The American DH is spun and you can see the grooves, and cut in half and welded together again. The Famaval can get BBC during the daytime in Limassol and longer in Paphos, and when the extension panels are fitted BADR interference is hardly noticed. But like you say, only when expertly fitted. The only drawback is the mount which is designed for motorising ,so the dish wobbles in strong winds.

Thanks a lot guys; I think this is drifting too far off topic, so when I get my questions more specific, I'll start a new thread.

It seems to me I should use 320 stainless bolts instead of whatever they supply, and beef up the mount with some added steel sections. I get a sea breeze up on the kitchen roof where it will be mounted.

Nothing much.

I went to Fuerteventura for a week to check out some of the reports but got sidetracked by a few rather cheeky little Riojas.

Nothing exciting at all. Just general chatter. Think it might be time to start a new thread - this one is hopelessly muddled again now.
