Constantly moving as we are in a glacial valley, our straight garden has developed a distinct dog leg as it slides down the hill on the alluvial clay :)

Doesn't that play havoc with your dish alignment??

If he understood how a portal worked back in 1967, then he could have dodged that bullet.

Not at all, the dish is on the flat roof extension of the house and whilst the garden is sliding, fortunately in the late 30's when the house was built they realised the type of foundations required to keep the house in the same place which it so far has.
I've probably just put the mockers on it.

Good morning all :)

1. I trust Blackburn has not vapourised overnight

2. It is a stunningly glorious day here in the N.Yorks Moors - the best I can recall since last Autumn. There is a slight frost, but the sk..y is blue and cloudless and the outlook is good for actually get out walking on them thar hills this afternoon.

Champion.

Bonjour mes amis,

I too trust that Blackburn has not been "portalled" overnight or indeed been carried off by a glacier, with or without a polar bear on top (do they still make those mints?)

A thin wet covering of snow here which will no doubt please my english holiday home neighbours, who are here for a short break, "to get away from the weather". Not cold though and I hope to get out to the shops later for a few essentials, washing up liquid, pizza, frozen wedges......

No, I have a supply 'laid in' in my extensive cellar (the downstairs bedroom). Sadly, I can't partake of much in the way of 'vin rouge', as it plays havoc with my digestive system. Vin blanc on the other hand is perfectly ok, and I still have some 12 year old single malt somewhere..........

Been oop t'Moor for the first time for weeks ............. Still some pockets of snow lying on the higher ground.

Really lovely up there today, albeit a tad brassy in the gentle breeze.

Ahhh, making me slightly homesick. Would that be part of the Lyke Wake, or is that further south of you?

Lyke Wake is a few miles north (Osmotherly latitude), but the Cleveland Way runs right around the edge of the Moor - although the bit we walked today didn't quite coincide with it. Just across the road and trudge through the mud ...............

Only saw two other people and they were arguing owing to a difference of opinion over the O/S Map.

It probably didn't help the poor chap that I (in a friendly way) pointed out where the gully he was looking for actually was ...............

"These are local paths, for local people .........."

Sorry to report that there's not a cloud in the s..ky here and reasonably mild. You have my sympathy :D:D

Snowdrops are coming through in the meadow, close to the cleverly disguised landmine. Snowdrops are apparently not flavoursome to either goat, goose or duck. Either that or the geese have located the tripwire cunningly attached between the flowers and said explosive device.

You are not the only one, I saw the outlook for next week just now, heavy rain for the next five days and frosty nights.

I may as well start on the red wine tonight as I'm unlikely to be doing any roof work.

Snowed overnight again, thawed a bit around midday then snowed again for half an hour, dull and dark at the moment

..Hmm ..
Lyke Wake eh' Gordon
That brings back some memories ...
I did that walk way back in my youth ...in conditions much like exist at the moment ..
It was so cold that the meths for my cooking stove ..refused to evaporate ...
There were drifts deep enough to vanish in ..
One wrong step off the invisible bridle way ..and you were often in up to your chest ..
Osmotherly to Robins Hood bay ...if memory serves ...and we did it in just over 2 days .
That was where I discovered the delights of Camerons Strong Arm ..
A superb local brew ;)
happy days..

Couldn't agree more ...
apart from being a useful antifreeze when it gets in yer blood...
It used to leave a very distinctive flavour to everything we cooked on it ..
...eventually I did go up market and treat myself to a gas stove ..
:)
