I thought you had a signal meter, to help you find the satellite?
One of the main reasons, not to get any signal, is due to the connections not being made correctly, or, as in my case, the F Connector being too tight, on the cable, and cutting off most of the braid, causing a very poor, intermittent, connection:
With the cheap signal meters you know instantly, if the connection is working, as it lights up.
Plus you get a signal reading, even if the dish is pointing at the ground.
Once connected you increase the sensitivity, by adjusting the knob, until it's around the 5 position, you then move the dish, until it goes to 10, the maximum, adjust the knob again, decreasing sensitivity, until it reads 5, adjust the dish, until it reaches 10, then continue doing this until you've maximized the signal.
You then do the same with the elevation.
Once you have got the maximum signal quality you check your receiver to find out which satellite you're locked onto.
