@sonnetpete
At picture 1 is the position where i find the best performance with the Black Ultra.
I have changed from SMART Titanium 2nd Ed Quad to Black Ultra Single and it gives a little better signal at 7w.the channel "Educ 1" at 7w gave som pixel with SMART but works good with Black Ultra.

BTW i have changed all nuts and bults to stainless steel, and used bigger washer.

Glad you got it up and running, :) The pic of the lnb shows that it might be raining, so any improvement now is good, as we always tend to compare it to the "best" your other dish could do. I have always found some fine tweaking on the specific fringe satellite that you want, to improve things a bit. The dish mounting bracket looks very fiddly to fit to the motor stub, with the bolts going backwards towards the dish, never seen one like that before.
As for me, after one 1m dish and two 1.2m dishes, I have decided there really is not that much difference between all three of them performance wise, and I really need a 1.5m/1.8m for 7W

Yes, I don't know why they changed from the normal 'bolt it up round the back of the motor stub' arrangement. Although it negates any chance of the bolts fouling the cables, it makes it really awkward to tighten the U bolts. Unless you mounted the backplate on the motor stub first then attached the dish face (as I did).

that does make it hard to fit having the bolts on the inside. this is the thing with dishes and diseqc motors you dont get a good fix to them and put me off, that cryptic v motor and orbital dish fixing looks better but for other dishes some modifying is needed.

Hmm.. as i am used to more horrible mecanic design this one has not caused me any problem. It's always the tools that make the job easy or hard...
Ok im cheating a bit, im standig on a flat roof when i put up my dish, so climbing on a ladder maby will give more problem.

I've changed the dish on this motor four times now, it doesn't get any easier trying to balance on a ladder and fix a dish face to a mount. The only other way is to do it as Sandybob says, is by attaching the motor stub to the motor. You are lucky to have the flat roof.

I've decided that my next dish (next summer if I have the money!) will be on a ground stand with a polar mount. I'm thinking of the 1.8M Laminas but the polar mount seems really expensive, unless I can get hold of a 1224 type motor LOL

I read in the beginning of this thread about a simular motor to the 1224, the manufacter is Moteck _http://www.moteck.com/product.asp?idproduct=164

If you Google this- LAMINAS AS 1800 mit Polarmount -you might find something for you.

Just to prove how good the Black Ultra is, this is a Nilesat H T/P that I just couldn't catch with the previous set up. Taken this morning with misty weather conditions.

(sorry it's a bit soft focus)

Black Ultra still top of my shopping list, but the QTH went up For Sale yesterday, so dishes and accessories are tending to come down, rather than go up.

Thanks for the suggestion Hakon. Googling that brings up links to satshop24, unfortunately he only ships the larger Laminas dishes to Germany, not the rest of the EU.

Yes i know but maby you can get the PM and get the dish from a local seller.
You also come to find some interesting reading in a german forum (Dx..) and lots of pictures of this nice Polar mount.
But when you have find the utimate callibration for your OFC1200 i think you will be satisfied.
As you wrote in another thread it's more fun to get a lot from a smaller dish to a lower price than it is from an expensive big dish.

That's a great imrovment then pete, well done. have you noticed a change in sound or speed with the motor moving?
You could think about a large fixed dish (1.5 gibby or 1.8 laminas) for nilesat and then your 1.2 motorized setup for everything else, that would be an awesome setup. I have thought about motorizing a larger dish, but I am now liking the idea more and more of a larger fixed dish, and a smaller motorized dish, not ideal perhaps but it depends on what you want and what you can afford. What we really need is an affordable heavy duty H-H motor for larger lightweight dishes, like the 1224, oh yea, and a Laminas distributor in the uk!

I haven't noticed much difference in the motor speed, but then I can't really recall how quick/slow it was before! Definitely a lot quieter, I guess there's less noise transmission through fiberglass than alu.

I did wonder about a large fixed dish, but then wouldn't you be thinking, "what could I get if it were motorized? UK Laminas distributor? Perhaps a friendly email suggesting that to one of the forum sponsors? (Though my French supplier does ship to Europe. Incidentally the charge to deliver a 1.8 Laminas to me would be 35 Euro's)

I've been receiving that transponder all day!!! (sometimes just above where it drops out though)

I have a 7100HD, though my previous Manhattan has a slightly more sensitive tuner. I would go for a Manhattan again if they brought out an HD model. Today, I've flashed the latest software onto the Vantage which has improved some features that I found annoying. However, yesterday it stopped scanning for new channels and the new software hasn't cured that. Factory reset? (sorry, going OT)
