It depends if you have any particular requirements such as a double tuner, recording. If not, go for the cheapest Dr.HD (D-15?) or TM-5402.
Please note there will probably be no EPG on 27.5W.
Thanks again.

Interestingly the EPG on the Foxsat still provides all the channel data from those channels that have now moved onto 2F, so at least I'll be able to find out what time the stuff that interests me will be on from my armchair on one box, and then presumably I can manualy set the Dr.HD or TM-5402 to record at the specific time and date. (I probably will not be up to the challenge of making the boxes talk to each other directly, even if they could do that, which I doubt)

I gather that the TM-5402 will record to an external USB device, and the spec/advert I just read on world-of-satellite.co.uk/Technomate/Technomate-TM-5402HD seems to say that it can record 3 channels while watching a fourth (as it seems all the BBC chanells are on the same transponder), so that's at least as good as what the Foxsat is doing for me at the moment - if not better.

That is because the Freesat EPG is sent from a Transponder on Eurobird (or Eutelsat 28, whatever it's now called!) at 28.5E.

Still learning the jargon, so thanks for that explanation, the hyphen makes all the difference. Google now shows me a YouTube link on the subject which wasn't there before.

I guess these Biss codes are not C-lines then? As that jargon is specific to PayTV codes.

BISS is an old and insecure encryption system which is slowly falling into disuse - but until it does, acquiring and applying the Keys required to facilitate decryption are relatively freely available. But never published here on this Forum ............. !

That explains it, and it seems that will be quite handy for my purposes as long as that continues.

Yes, I've read that one must not ask for or post those here, so I will be a good boy in that regard. I saw some codes on a Google search that might be current. But I'll find that out that when I've acquired the hardware.

Anyway, Ricky, you will not need them for 27.5W.

Basically Ricky, a C-Line is like a URL, it connect your box via the internet to a remote server (usually somewhere like north Africa) which downloads the subscription card details to your box, then when you connect to a pay-channel i.e. Sky Sports it uploads the card details to the satellite when requested which is every few seconds. It enables you to watch many subscription channels for a much lower monthly fee, also you can watch channels from many other satellites such as Hotbird 13E and Astra 1 19.2E with all the main European channels on.

This method of card-sharing albeit illegal is very popular down here in southern Spain with many companies offering the service for around 25€ a month, they even advertise in all the local papers and magazines!

We have more companies now setting-up offering the ITV/BBC channels in standard definition only via 'redistribution' over a private network for between 13-20€ a month.

..as you described it it sounds almost like a legitimate business. IMHO it's organized crime!!

As far as I know, BBC HD has been replaced by BBC2 HD at 28.2E.
Has the same happened at 27.5W?

Must have done - BBC HD no longer exists.

Both sound expensive and dodgy to me.

That's good.

I'll stick with my plans to buy some kit and try and get 27.5w decrypted - and hope that this gives me a lower cost and relatively legal method that hopefully will not involve me dealing over the internet with shady underworld characters :-)

So, are any folk using Dr.H.D and Technomate 5402 still receiving?

And is anyone else on any other boxes receiving?

And now the pmt is not crypted. Funny why it goes on and off all the time...
When it's crypted theres no enigma reciever which can open these. Best is to buy e.g dr hd 15/16
But anyway. No its ok with my vu ultimo. We'll se how long...

I don't think so. They don't care that much about illegal access to channels at 27.5W, especially because so few people have motorized installations. Most of the people even don't know the channels are there.
What percentage of those who get 27.5W own a TM-5402 or a DrHD? It's negligible.
Especially, if at the same time millions can watch BBC/ITV and many others all over France and Germany for free legally.

So it is looking likely that the choice seems to be between the DrHD 15/16 or the Technomate 5402HD.

They are a similar price so which would be better? I need to add my clines as well as BISS decoding.

I am drawn to the TM as it seems more well known and is recommended by What Satellite.

Any thoughts?

As an update, SES Astra have announced the launch date of the Astra 2E satellite to be July 2013 being operational in September 2013, so this is when I need to be set up by.

It's anyone's guess as to what the state of this feed will be by then...
